Finds the internal rate of return — the discount rate that makes the NPV of a series of periodic cash flows exactly zero — using Newton–Raphson iteration with a bisection fallback.
IRR expresses an investment's return as a single percentage comparable to interest rates. It answers: 'what annual rate would this stream of cash flows need to earn to reproduce itself?'

Enter cash flows, one per line or separated by commas
Make the first value the initial investment, as a negative number
Use negative for money out and positive for money in
Read the IRR; the tool also shows the NPV at that rate (about zero)
-1000, 1331 → IRR ≈ 33.10% per period-1000, 0, 0, 0, 1610.51 → IRR ≈ 10.00% over 5 periods-5000, 1500, 1500, 1500, 1500 → IRR ≈ 7.71% (matches Excel)Why does the tool say no IRR exists?
IRR requires mixed signs (money out and money in); flows that never change sign have no zero-NPV rate.
How accurate is the result?
Newton–Raphson with a bisection fallback converges to the same value Excel's IRR() returns for conventional flows.
Is my data shared?
No, everything runs locally in your browser.
What period does the rate apply to?
The same spacing as your cash flows; one rate per period.
What if there are multiple sign changes?
Non-conventional cash flows can theoretically have multiple IRRs; the tool returns the root nearest the standard starting guess.
Authoritative specifications, standards, and in-depth reading for IRR Calculator.
One cash flow per line or separated by commas. Negative = money out, positive = money in. The first value is period 0 (your initial investment).
